By Air and Road
Houston has two airports, George Bush
Intercontinental Airport-Houston, and Houston Hobby. Intercontinental
Airport is located 25 miles north of the city. Students
can secure transportation by using Airport Express located
near the baggage claim area. An airport bus runs every
30 minutes from 7:30 am until 11:30pm. The cost is about
$15 from Hobby Airport and about $20 from Intercontinental
Airport. The bus service brings passengers to three major
downtown hotels, as well as the University Hilton Hotel
at the University of Houston.
Alternatively, persons can travel by taxi from the airport
directly to the university from Intercontinental for about
$40. Ask the driver about the fare before leaving the
airport. Taxi fare will be more expensive than the airport
bus fare. It is customary to tip the driver at least 15
percent of the total amount of the fare. |

| The weather in Houston needs to be taken
very seriously. It can scorch you with its intensity,
or drench you with its humidity. In summer, the average
maximum daytime temperature is 94 degrees Fahrenheit (34
degrees Celsius) while in winter the temperature averages
between 40 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit (4 to 16 degrees
Celsius). Humidity is highest in October, when it can
reach 93 percent even at dawn. Late spring (April and
May) and early summer (June and July) are the best times
to visit, as the humidity isn't yet at its peak. |
